S/S Blidösund

S/S Blidösund is a true museum, preserved in the same condition as when it was launched in 1911. It has its own program with musical cruises and excursions during the summer, but it can be rented on days when it’s not operating in its own service. Onboard S/S Blidösund, there are three dining rooms with a total seating capacity of 60 people. In the aft saloon, where the artists perform during music nights, long tables can be set up for around 40-50 people.

Take a look in the engine room and watch as the stoker shovels in coal and see how a genuine steam engine works!

History

Background of the ship

S/S Blidösund was ordered in 1910 by a group of dedicated residents from Blidö who united in protest against Waxholmsbolaget, as the company did not service the routes and docks that were desired. To solve this problem, they raised funds to finance their own vessel. The result was S/S Blidösund, which was launched in 1911 and quickly became a beloved steamship on its main route from Stockholm through Roslagen.

Today, S/S Blidösund is a living museum, preserved in the same condition as when it was first launched. Her well-preserved original state gives travelers a unique opportunity to experience the archipelago just as it was over 100 years ago. She is not just a steamship – she is a piece of living history.
