S/S Blidösund

The Ship's History

S/S Blidösund was commissioned in 1910 by a group of dedicated residents of Blidö who joined forces in protest against Waxholmsbolaget, the main archipelago ferry operator at the time. Dissatisfied with the routes and piers being served, they raised the funds needed to finance a vessel of their own. The result was S/S Blidösund, launched in 1911, and she quickly became a beloved steamship on her regular route between Stockholm and the Roslagen archipelago.

Today, S/S Blidösund is a protected historical vessel and a living museum, preserved in the same condition as when she first entered service. Her authentic appearance offers passengers a rare opportunity to experience the archipelago just as trevelers did more than a century ago. More than a steamship, she is a living piece of Swedish maritime history.

S/S Blidösund

The Ship Today

S/S Blidösund is a floating museum, preserved in the same condition as when she was first launched in 1911. During the summer season, she operates music cruises and unique excursions throughout the Stockholm archipelago, before returning to service for traditional Christmas cruises between the Advent weekends. On days when she is not operating her own scheduled cruises, S/S Blidösund is available for private events.

On board, there are three dining rooms with seating for up to 60 guests. Additionally  the aft deck, which serves as a stage for live performances during music cruises and hosts the Christmas buffet in December, can accommodate an extra 40 to 50 guests with banquet-style seating.

A visit on board offers the opportunity to explore both the bridge and the engine room, where the stoker shovels coal into the furnace and the steam engine beats steadily below deck. Together, they provide a fascinating glimpse into the workings of a genuine steamship and a maritime tradition that has remained largely unchanged for more than a century.
