Northern Boatline

Take a day trip to the beautiful island of Lidö, or perhaps book an overnight stay and experience the tranquility for yourself.

Travelling to Lidö on the Northern Boat Line takes just over an hour and a half. If you choose the day-trip option, you’ll have five hours to spend on the island. This gives keen hikers plenty of time to walk around the entire island on the well-marked Stockholm Archipelago Trail, which takes about three and a half hours to complete without swimming stops. If you prefer a more leisurely pace, you can explore shorter sections of the trail, which winds through both meadows and forests.

The full loop around the island is 11.9 kilometers long, while the shortest route is approximately three kilometers. Apart from two stretches of forest path, the hike follows easy-to-walk gravel or grass roads. Even the woodland trails are relatively accessible by archipelago standards. A refreshing swim in the sea is the perfect way to round off your walk.

History enthusiasts will find plenty to discover on the island, including a well-preserved Russian baking oven (Ryssugn) and the Lidö Battery, where the views from the old cannon position are spectacular. Over the years, Lidö has also been home to a holiday retreat for housewives, Europe’s largest mink farm, and much more, all of which can be explored in the island’s small information hut.

For those who would rather not spend their day hiking, there’s a swimming area just a couple of hundred meters from the steamship pier. Visitors can also rent canoes or stand-up paddleboards. Why not paddle over to nearby Idö? Or simply stretch out, listen to the gentle lapping of the waves, enjoy a good meal, and relax.
