History

Background of the ship

M/S Riddarfjärden was originally built as M/S DISA at Lödöse Shipyard along the Göta Älv in 1936 and was the 62nd vessel to be constructed there. She immediately began service in the Styrsö archipelago traffic in Gothenburg’s southern archipelago and was for many years the shipping company’s best ice-breaking passenger vessel. During World War II, she was rented out to the Swedish Navy and stationed in Lake Vänern.

After the war, she was returned to Styrsöbolaget until she was sold in 1999 to Charter Stockholm. This was followed by a year of renovations, during which the interior was styled with influences from the 1930s in mahogany and brass, and she was inaugurated at the turn of the millennium for her first assignment. Since then, the vessel has become incredibly popular with many clients due to her beautiful interior and delightful charm.

In 2010, Blidösundsbolaget acquired Charter Stockholm, and M/S Riddarfjärden got her new home port at Skeppsbron, below the castle.
