Our history 

Founded in 1911, Blidösundsbolaget provides both reliable archipelago transport and unique experiences in the Stockholm archipelago. We operate routes to destinations such as Vaxholm and Sandhamn with our historic ships. 

Our mission is to preserve and share a rich maritime heritage. Join us on a journey where tradition meets the future and become part of our commitment to the archipelago. 

Blidösundsbolaget

Founded in 1911, Blidösundsbolaget has been an integral part of the Stockholm archipelago and maritime culture for over a century. From our early days with steamships like S/S Blidösund to today’s modern archipelago experiences, we have continuously evolved while preserving a rich maritime heritage.

An important part of our history is the steamship’s kitchen, where deckhands were not only responsible for the ship but also for creating a welcoming atmosphere for passengers. The food served onboard became a key part of the experience, fostering a sense of community among travelers.

During the Blidö War, a period marked by fierce competition for archipelago traffic, Blidösundsbolaget fought to maintain its leading position — and succeeded.

Today, we combine tradition with modern technology. In the fall of 2024, together with the Public Transport Administration, we launched the new electric ship Nova, a major milestone in our commitment to sustainable archipelago transport.

Blidösundsbolaget remains a vibrant part of the archipelago’s history, offering travelers unique experiences on the water, where tradition and innovation meet.

Tradition meets the future on the water

For decades, Blidösundsbolaget has been a key player in the Stockholm archipelago, successfully combining strong traditions with a continuous drive for development and sustainability. We have adapted to new demands and technologies while preserving our maritime heritage, continuing to offer both reliable archipelago transport and unique experiences on the water.

Over the years, we have modernized our fleet with new ships that provide both high comfort and reduced environmental impact. We have also expanded our services with cruises and events such as dining cruises and music cruises, giving our passengers the opportunity to experience the archipelago in a more personal way.

As we have grown, we have placed a strong focus on environmental initiatives and sustainability. This autumn, we began operating Trafikförvaltningen’s newest ship, Nova, an electric-powered ship marking an important step toward a greener future for archipelago transport.

Blidösundsbolaget remains a vibrant part of the Stockholm archipelago, and we look forward to continuing to create unforgettable experiences for our guests — always with an eye toward the future.
