Embark on an unforgettable weekend cruise aboard the steamships Norrskär and Storskär and experience the Stockholm archipelago. Take a full day round trip from Strömkajen or hop on and off at various destinations. During the weekend, we offer departures to popular gems in the archipelago.

Weekend trips in the archipelago

On board S/S Norrskär and S/S Storskär

S/S Storskär and S/S Norrskär offer weekend cruises from May to September.

The ships depart from and return to Strömkajen, located in front of the National Museum. You can either take the full tour or hop on and off along the way.

Since the cruise is part of Waxholmsbolaget’s public transport, ticket prices are very affordable. An adult ticket to Vaxholm costs 43 SEK. See the other ticket prices below.

Tickets can only be purchased on board, but table reservations can be made via our website. Please note that a table reservation does not guarantee a spot onboard. To ensure a seat, you should arrive well in advance of departure.

S/S Storskär Weekend Cruise – Round Trip to Möja (Green Line)
Departs on Saturdays in spring/autumn and summer at 10:30 AM, returning at 6:55 PM.

S/S Storskär Weekend Cruise – Round Trip to Husarö (Red Line)
Departs on Sundays in spring/autumn at 11:30 AM, returning at 7:00 PM.
In summer: departure at 11:30 AM, return at 7:15 PM.

S/S Norrskär Weekend Cruise – Round Trip to Gällnö (Yellow Line)
Departs on Saturdays in spring/autumn at 11:00 AM, returning at 5:50 PM.

S/S Norrskär Weekend Cruise – Round Trip to Grinda (Orange Line)
Departs on Sundays in spring/autumn at 1:00 PM, returning at 6:25 PM.

S/S Norrskär Weekend Cruise – Round Trip to Sandhamn (Blue Line)
Operates during peak summer on Saturdays and Sundays. Departs at 10:00 AM, returning at 7:50 PM.

Our cruises offer several boarding and disembarking points. You are, of course, welcome to join or leave the cruise at intermediate stops such as Vaxholm. See the route map on the right.

S/S Storskär

The archipelago’s fastest steamship

What could be more delightful than gliding through the archipelago with the help of a steam engine? Not many would argue! S/S Storskär is the archipelago’s fastest steamship. It has triple expansion and is currently oil-fired. It was built as Strängnäs Express in 1908 in Gothenburg, and in 1939 it was transferred to Waxholmsbolaget. In connection with its hundred-year anniversary, S/S Storskär was designated a cultural heritage steamship. She is now one of the “regular” vessels that operates the inner archipelago on a daily basis from May to September.

Waxholmsbolaget’s youngest steamship

S/S Norrskär is Waxholmsbolaget’s youngest steamship, built in 1910 by Eriksbergs Mekaniska Verkstads AB in Gothenburg. It was delivered as Sandhamns Express, featuring a twin compound steam engine, and is also an older sister of S/S Blidösund (1911). Just like S/S Storskär, it was designated a cultural heritage steamship in the year it celebrated its 100th anniversary.

With a restaurant and café onboard, there are great opportunities for a pleasant trip. During the summer, you can also enjoy a ride on S/S Norrskär to the classic Sandhamn in the outer archipelago.

In the ships’ cafés, you can enjoy lighter meals, freshly baked rolls, pastries, snacks, and ice cream. We also serve coffee/tea, soft drinks, beer, and wine.

Both S/S Storskär and S/S Norrskär depart from Strömkajen below the National Museum.

Yes, it is possible to board at other docks. Please see more information and current timetables above.

No, tickets are paid onboard. However, you can book a table in the dining room before you travel. Please note that a table reservation does not guarantee a spot on board, so to ensure a place, you should arrive well in advance of departure.

Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee a spot on board, even if you have booked a table in the dining room. Our advice is to arrive early before departure.

If you would like to make a booking for a larger group, please feel free to contact Blidösundsbolaget by phone or email. The kitchen would appreciate having your food order in advance, and we will inform you about this when you make your table reservation.

You can bring a dog to the designated area, but the dog is not allowed in the dining room.

The ships have accessible entrances and toilets, but there is a staircase without an elevator up to the upper deck where the restaurant is located.

No, the entire ship is considered a restaurant area and is subject to a smoking ban.

No, all ships in regular traffic have been cash-free for several years.

Yes, the transportation card is valid on all of Waxholmsbolaget’s regular services. You travel for free and can bring a companion at no extra cost.
